When looking around at unique ways of making pottery I noticed some people will create intention space to stave on clay material. So this was my effort to make a larger bowl with height but less clay. Perfect for a salad bowl to impress the guest. The empty space leaves room for feelings of being humble and gratitude. The harmony of the small pieces of clay joining together to create a hair more space is a reminder that when we stand together we are taller, stronger and wiser.

I like giving up to the kiln gods. I like not having structure in my glaze process. I rarely use one glaze per piece. I spend time hand painting my glaze. I love painting and the best part is you cannot see what it will look like until after it is done. There is a way to test and perfect but there is a small room of chance when it comes to pottery and I love that and roll with it. I layer about five different glazes for this sunflower plate. over lapping and mingling glaze over the carving of a sunflower.

SunLoveMoon
I only went to one concert this year. The past couple years I have gone to at least three. This year I saw one of my favorite bands. It is a guy that is almost sixty and had a grunge band back in the 90s. Still got it though. I wanted to give him a gift as a thank you for his music that I love. So I made him a ceramic dish smaller than a pinky. So small when I gave it to him he just slipped it in his pocket. The band is called SunKilMoon, so I used slip to draw a sun on one side and a moon on the other. I loved it so much kind of wish I kept it for myself. So I made some other version of the same thing.

These holes are larger than I would want for the size of the dish. Very small bowl. Not enough for noodles, it is pores on the inside because it has unglaze bits. This is a small bowl but I am proud. I wanted to add more materials than clay to my projects. The holes gave me more space to create outside of the kiln.

So ceramics is mostly bowls and cups. Art with functional qualities. How differently do we eat when we are using bowls and cups from someone we love instead of a stranger? Will our meals become more locally sourced and more shared?

I am a believer that physical objects hold memory.
I am a believer that physical objects hold memory. This bowl will always be the bowl I made in 2025. I love giving away handmade gifts because they will always think of me when they use it. It is my way to sneak in some love in their life.

The first time I touched air dry clay was when I was maybe sixteen. I made a hello kitty face for my mom who loved hello kitty. She had it in the curio most of the time. I don’t remember why or how it broken but it did. When she looked at me about the broken toy I said I could fix it and I did. I added glue and it was back. I trust that I can fix problems with my need and desire to create. I always find a way.
Right now I am working on a woodworking project. I have some broken ceramic that I made that I want to repurpose and use to make a mosaic.
